Cameron Diaz may be wishing she had stayed in retirement. Her co-star and friend Jamie Foxx has reportedly thrown the London set of Back in Action “into chaos,” as a source told The Sun he has fired four people. Among those who allegedly got the boot? An executive producer, an assistant director and… a driver.
The action-comedy film is the actresses’s big ‘comeback’ after ‘retiring’ from the movie biz eight years ago. It was Foxx himself who coaxed her out of retirement to make the upcoming Netflix flick, reports Forbes.
In June of 2022, Foxx tweeted a conversation he recorded of himself, Tom Brady, and Diaz, where they convince her to star in Back in Action. At the time, Foxx said “Cameron, I hope you aren’t mad I recorded this, but no turning back now. Had to call in the GOAT to bring back another GOAT.”
The Shrek actress reportedly responded with “Jamie Foxx, only you could get me back in action!!! I can’t frickin wait it’s gonna be a blast!”

The duo last starred together in Annie in 2014, which ended up being Diaz’s last film. At the time, Diaz told Goop that she wanted to “focus on friends and family,” and “finally take care of [herself],” officially ‘retiring’ from acting in 2018.
The 50-year-old went on to have daughter Raddix, 3, with rocker husband Benji Madden, and launch an organic wine company.
Now, that she’s had a few years off, her foray back into the film business has not been lacking in its fair share of drama. On March 15, The Sun reported that Foxx had a “major meltdown” on set. He was “so unhappy” with the way the production was going that he demanded that the problems be “sorted immediately,” reportedly prompting the firings.
According to the source, there have been “some issues on set and Jamie has had a major meltdown over it all,” and that the the 55-year-old actor is now “pretty unpopular.” A photo featured in the British tabloid shows a concerned looking Diaz with Foxx’s hand on her shoulder.
No word yet on if the sacked staffers have been replaced, or if it’s delaying the movie’s production schedule at all. The film also stars Glenn Close and Friday Night Lights’s Kyle Chandler.
While Back in Action doesn’t yet have an official release date set yet, Netflix anticipates it’ll start streaming later this year, or early next year.
