True crime fans are about to get a new docu-series to ruminate over. New details are emerging surrounding the gruesome events involved with the death of 2-year-old Caylee Anthony, the daughter of Casey Anthony, with the upcoming release of a new three-part docuseries, Casey Anthony: Where The Truth Lies.
In Anthony’s first on-camera interview, she alleges that her father, George Anthony, is responsible for her daughter’s tragic passing.
“I wasn’t feeling that great, and I wanted to lay down,” the woman the media coined “tot mom,” recalls in a preview of the documentary, as reported by PEOPLE. “I had her lay in bed with me.”
Anthony explains that was the last time she saw Caylee, and that events escalated soon after.
“I was awoken by [my father] shaking me and asking me where Caylee was. That didn’t make sense. She would never even leave my room without telling me,” she adds.
“I immediately started looking around the house. I go outside and I’m looking to see where she could be.”
At the time of the incident, Anthony was 22 years old. Now, at 36, she’s speaking about her experience for the first time on-camera and shockingly alleging that her father, George Anthony, is the one responsible for Caylee’s death. She had previously alluded to his involvement, but never to this extent.
“He was standing there with her,” she explains in the PEOPLE preview. “She was soaking wet. He handed her to me. Said it was my fault. That I caused it.”
Anthony adds that her father didn’t “rush to call 911” or try to resuscitate his granddaughter and that he kept repeating that everything was “going to be ok.” She states George took the body away and she never saw her daughter again, although she believed her to still be alive for some time.
The docuseries surrounds a new take on disturbing events spanning 2008 to 2011, after the series subject became internationally infamous with the disappearance of Caylee. CNN ‘s trial timeline shows that it was Casey’s mother, Cindy, who informed authorities of her granddaughter’s disappearance, and the child’s remains were found six months later in the woods near the family’s home.
Anthony gave a false report to police that Caylee was kidnapped by her nanny during her 2011 trial, and her legal team said that Caylee had drowned in the family pool. During the time Caylee was reportedly missing, Anthony was also spotted out partying and promoting nightclub events while staying with her boyfriend.
Originally charged with murder, but then acquitted, Anthony walked away with only four counts of providing false information to law enforcement, for which she served prison time.
Casey Anthony: Where The Truth Lies is bringing to light a new layer of disturbing information: that Anthony alleges she had been sexually abused by her father and her brother, Lee, and that her father may have staged Caylee’s drowning to cover up evidence of abusing her, too.
“He’d put a pillow over my face and smother me to knock me out,” Anthony recalls about her own father in the new interview. “That happened several times. I’m sure there were times where I was incapacitated as a child where my body was limp and lifeless.”
“I wish every day I had said something to someone about something,” she adds. “Maybe then things would be different.”
The documentary will certainly bring new information to the surface, though it’s for viewers to decide whether or not Anthony’s testimonials are proof enough of her (or her father’s) involvement in the tragic case.
