Lindsay Lohan is back — and with an unexpected take on the benefits social media has on young, rising celebrities.
While some would say social media does more harm than good, and could possibly be a detriment to someone’s icon status (peep Kanye), the Mean Girls actress argues that social media puts younger celebrities at a greater advantage in defending themselves, especially when it comes to tabloids and paparazzi.
In her November cover story for Cosmopolitan, Lohan admitted she’s “a little jealous” that social media wasn’t as prevalent in her young adult years as it is now.

Had she had access to an Instagram or Twitter platform with millions of followers, Lohan says it may have changed the trajectory of her life and career. So much so, that she may have even stayed in the U.S.
In 2014, Lohan permanently moved to Dubai where paparazzi is illegal.
“I feel like … when I first started out in the business, none of us had a say in how to control our own narrative. There were paparazzi pictures, and then people ran with it,” Lohan told the magazine.
“So, I think it’s really good that in this day and age, people can say who they are and who they want to be. And I admire and appreciate that. I’m a little jealous because I didn’t have that,” she continued.
While Lohan sees a lot of good in social media, she knows it can have negative consequences, too.
“I think it moves really fast and I just try to keep up as best I can,” she said. The Parent Trap actress added that she “check[s] everything before I post it” and she often runs posts by friends first “because you have to.”
She’s also learned how to block out Internet trolls. “You’ve got to chill,” she advises.
“You have to take everything people say with a grain of salt and just be you. And slow down, because everyone’s so quick right now,” Lohan said.
A piece of wisdom indeed!
