Princess Anne has received some very sad news in lockdown after an important charity to her has been forced to close.
The Animal Health Trust, which the royal has been the president of since 1991, has had to close after 77 years.
The veterinary charity announced the sad news in a statement on their website last week.
‘It is with deep regret that today we have announced to our colleagues that the Animal Health Trust’s Board of Trustees have concluded that the Trust needs to close and next week will formally begin the process to wind-up the AHT’ read the statement.
‘The decision to cease operations has been reached after several months of trying to secure funding.
‘Although substantial progress was made, the charity has been unable to secure the significant funds it needs to have a long-term viable future.’
As soon as the organisation had revealed its financial difficulties, Princess Anne got involved to try and help them.
She took part in video call meetings with the charity and spoke to the organisation’s trustees about how they could all work together to raise funds to prevent this from happening, but unfortunately there was nothing that could be done.
Princess Anne isn’t the only royal who has recently received sad news about a charity to their heart, as Duchess Catherine recently heard about some changes to her patronage Action on Addiction.
As a result of the coronavirus lockdown, the drug and alcohol addition charity had to close down their dry bar, revealing, ‘Due to the financial impact of Covid-19 The Brink Café, Liverpool, will not re-open but our full range of therapeutic addiction services for individuals and families in Liverpool will continue.
‘These services, which are funded by Liverpool City Council and other trusts and foundations, are unaffected by the decision to close The Brink Café and we thank them for their continued support’.
