Lesley Pearse’s brilliant storytelling
With storylines that keep the reader hooked from beginning to end, Lesley’s characters are unforgettable. Her books aren’t defined by any one genre, yet she engages her readers completely. She moves effortlessly between crime as in Till We Meet Again, and historical adventures like Never Look Back. The passionately emotive Trust Me is based on the true-life scandal of post-war British child migrants sent to Australia.
Lesley’s early years
Lesley’s life has been as packed with drama as her books. She was three when her mother died. With her father in the Royal Marines, Lesley and her older brother spent three years in orphanages before her father remarried. Lesley and her older brother were brought home again. They were joined by two other children who were later adopted by her father and stepmother, and a continuing stream of foster children. The impact of constant change and uncertainty in Lesley’s early years is reflected in one of the recurring themes in her books. She explores what happens to those who are emotionally damaged as children. Lesley skilfully marries the pain and unhappiness of her early experiences with a unique gift for storytelling.
First hand knowledge
Whether she is writing about the pain of first love, the unwanted, abused child, adoption, rejection, fear, poverty and revenge, she knows about it first hand. In her stories of courage and adversity, she often gives a voice to women lost in history.
She is passionate about her research and her stories have taken her from Alaska to the Crimea. Lesley now lives in in Devon where she loves to spend time with her three daughters and four grandchildren.
