The White Company sends their topper in a neat, re-usable bag. You could store an old topper in here or your bedding or towels. Either way, The White Company emphasises that it’s re-usable, which gives them a big tick for sustainability.
Getting the topper out of the bag is easy — if unzips — and then all you have to do is spread it across the bed. I would recommend giving it a little shake, after all, it’s been rolled up and in a bag for goodness knows how long, but mine was actually pretty plush anyway.

The White Company’s Hypoallergenic Mattress Topper has a lot to offer for a lot of people. First, you have the reasonable price tag, which, combined with The White Company’s quality and design, makes for an exceptional value mattress topper. You could probably get something cheaper from Amazon, but this takes the edge with the design and durability.
There’s also an obvious clue in the name: this is hypoallergenic, so it’s great if you have sensitive skin. It’s gentle and comes worry free — without any funny gassy smells. The only downside of The White Company opting for a hypoallergenic polyester fill is that this is a brilliant insulator. Cold sleepers can rejoice, but if you’re struggling with night sweats, this isn’t going to be the cooling solution you’re after. Luckily, the cotton casing helps to balance our polyester’s insulating effects — it wicks away moisture and regulates heat — but it’s not much competition for M&S’ Comfortably Cool Topper, for example, which actively cools you as you sleep.
How does The White Company Hypoallergenic Comfort Topper fit on the bed?

There are thick elastic straps around all four corners of the Hypoallergenic Topper, so you can slip those around the bed to secure it in place. This was easy enough to do — I wasn’t battling with any of the material — and it spread perfectly to all four corners of my bed.

I’ll come straight out with it. The White Company’s Hypoallergenic Comfort Toppers is one of the best mattress toppers that I’ve tested. It does everything that I want a topper to do: adds some extra cushioning, whilst leaving the mattress to do all the support. If you wanted a foam mattress topper to change the way your bed feels, this isn’t for you. However, by the standards of what your average mattress topper can do, this is perfect.
Lying down on the bed, I could immediately feel the perfectly plush texture underneath me. I transition between side and back sleeping and this was great for offering that extra layer. A front sleeper, for example, might not enjoy that super soft cushioning, but I really liked it.
The cotton casing is very subtle — it’s rare that I feel this through sheets — but I did notice a little more structure to my bedding. They felt crisper, which is exactly what I like.
It’s been a whole month now that I’ve been sleeping on The White Company’s Hypoallergenic Mattress Topper and I have to say, it’s been bliss. I’ve noticed that the bed feels comfier and I’ve generally felt well supported when I sleep. So, all in all, it’s been a success.
Is The White Company Hypoallergenic Comfort Topper cooling?

I mentioned earlier that this has a polyester fill with a cotton case, meaning that the whole topper kind of cancels itself out with heating and cooling effects. Cotton is great for naturally wicking away moisture and heat, whilst polyester tends to be a better insulator. I wear a tracker when I sleep and had no temperature variations out of my normal patterns. That checks out with how I felt too — I wasn’t any warmer or cooler than normal.
If you’re happy with how you sleep now, this won’t mess with that success. However, if you’re struggling with night sweats, it’s worth checking out your options.
Cleaning The White Company Hypoallergenic Comfort Topper

On the bag that your Hypoallergenic Comfort Topper arrives in, you’ll see some care and cleaning instructions from The White Company. Both tips are really useful for making sure that you get the most for your money.
The first thing that they recommend is frequently airing your topper, but not in direct sunlight. This is great practice and the frequency will ultimately depend upon you, because The White Company doesn’t specify and because you know best how sweaty you get at night. If you want a rough guide, I would recommend airing it once a month, especially if you have some outside space.
As for proper cleaning, The White Company recommends sponging any spills or stains, although, they very reasonably recommend that you use a mattress protector to prevent the need. Then, if you feel like your topper really needs a wash, they recommend using a non-biological, natural detergent and running your wash at 60 degrees. You can tumble dry, but keep it to a cool setting. That’s all pretty standard guidance for a mattress topper, so you’re lucky.
How does The White Company Hypoallergenic Comfort Topper compare?

If you want to find the topper that tops them all, I don’t think you can go wrong with The White Company’s Hypoallergenic Comfort model. The closest competitor in my mind is the M&S Comfortably Cool Topper, which feels ultra soft and does a good job of helping your body to thermoregulate. It comes with the same polyester issue as The White Company. However, in this instance, I think the M&S topper actually feels a little cheaper. Nonetheless, it’s supportive, comfortable, and actually an easy way to save some money if you don’t want to shop at The White Company.
Alternatively, if you like The White Company and their prestigious reputation, there’s a chance that you’ll be a little disappointed by the polyester fill and the price tag. Don’t worry — I like life‘s luxurious too, especially when it comes to sleep. For that reason I sought out Woolroom’s Deluxe Washable Mattress Topper. this is crafted from unbleached, organic cotton and filled with traceable Chatsworth wool. It’s a step-up in price, but also a step up in performance too. This regulated my body temperature better than anything else that I slept on and our whole homes team has ended up being converted over to team Woolroom. It’s nice to know that you’re sleeping on an all-natural surface and still enjoying the same comfort levels as The White Company’s Hypoallergenic Comfort Topper.
Should you buy The White Company Hypoallergenic Comfort Topper?

If you have sensitive skin and you want a good quality, basic topper, this is perfect. I’m surprised at how affordable The White Company’s Hypoallergenic Comfort Topper is and you’ll be even more surprised when you feel how wonderfully soft it is too. This is what dreams are made of.
