Allegedly, Meghan Markle was never in the running to attend King Charles’s coronation. In a recent interview with Page Six, former BBC reporter Tom Bower said that he believes “everyone’s delighted she’s not coming.”
This isn’t the first time royal fans have gotten wind of a possible scuffle between the Duchess of Sussex and her estranged in-laws. Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan boarded their “freedom flight” to California and aired the Palace’s dirty laundry in a Netflix docuseries, the royal family has made a show of keeping the Sussexs at arms’ length.
The strain between Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William, who he reportedly isn’t on speaking terms with, was made worse amid Queen Elizabeth’s death. Then his father kicked him and his family out of their UK residence, Frogmore Cottage.
Little Princess Lilibet was even scorned by her relatives across the pond when they snuffed an invite to her baptism. It’s been one catastrophe after another for the Sussexes, leading to one question: Will they attend Charles’s coronation?
The answer…yes…and no.

While Harry will show face at his father’s crowning ceremony, Meghan will not. A source close to the family told Page Six it would be “inauthentic” for Meghan to participate. However, Bower thinks the royal family went out of their way to make it so Meghan wouldn’t want to come.
“They made sure that she wasn’t going to come by making sure that she was told she’d have to curtsy three times, that she wouldn’t be in the spotlight, that she wouldn’t play any part in the whole thing and that if she came, they’d be put in row 54 in the back behind the column,” he quipped.
Now, fans don’t know if any of this is for certain. It’s not like the Firm to respond to the media, but some of these accusations line up with the couple’s demands (i.e. having a role in the ceremony).
Charles’s coronation will take place on Saturday, May 6 — the same day as Prince Archie’s fourth birthday.
