Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson believes her late best friend is joyfully looking down on her youngest son and his growing family. The Duchess of York married Prince Andrew in 1986, five years after Princess Diana wed his brother, then-Prince Charles.
Though Fergie and Andrew went their separate ways in 1996, the Duchess remains close with the royal family including her nephew, Prince Harry.
“I think that [Princess] Diana would be incredibly proud of her grandchildren,” Ferguson told People while promoting her new book, A Most Intriguing Lady.
Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their first child together, a son named Archie, in 2019, followed by their daughter, Lillibet, in 2021.
She was quick to include Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three children in that sentiment as well. The Prince and Princess of Wales are parents to Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte.

As their aunt and late mother’s best friend, Ferguson has kept a watchful eye on the brothers. She told the magazine she casts “no judgment” on Harry’s recent estrangement from his immediate family. Additionally, she views them no differently following their decision to step down as senior royal members.
“I don’t believe that any single person has the right to judge another person. I’m not in a position myself to make any judgments,” she said. “I have been judged all my life, and I have no judgment on the Sussexes.”
As royal fans know, Ferguson’s daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, are rather close with Harry and Meghan.
Although she isn’t a senior working royal, Princess Eugenie has adopted a similar living situation as her cousin. Outside of royal obligations and events, she and her family reside in Portugal.
