From workplace romance to thirsty social climbers, Discovery’s The Price of Glee is peeling back the toxic layers of the Glee-verse like never before. The three-part docuseries also covers the sudden deaths of notable Glee cast members Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera, and Mark Salling. Bombshells aside, the big storyline isn’t from but rather about the docuseries: none of the remaining living cast members wanted to be associated with the project.
Leading up to the show’s release, Kevin McHale (Artie) revealed to InTouch Weekly “us and all our friends have nothing to do” with the docuseries. “You don’t necessarily want to give something more attention that it maybe deserves or needs,” he explained.
McHale added that “if we feel like we need to” he and fellow Glee alum Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina) will debunk any “glaring” false truths the docuseries tries to spin about their costars on their joint Glee podcast, And That’s What You Really Missed.
Ushkowitz echoed a similar sentiment to Buzzfeed. The actress argued that real Gleeks will turn to their podcast, not the docuseries, for Glee trivia. In addition to hearing from McHale and Ushkowitz, And That’s What You Really Missed features episodes with Glee creator Ryan Murphy, casting director Robert Ulrich, and costar Heather Morris.
“In terms of the Discovery+ documentary, it feels even more important, to me at least, to do the podcast because we were the ones who were there,” Ushkowitz said. “And we were the ones experiencing this. And we know what really happened.”
“So, you know, for me, it feels even more pertinent to actually be the ones to share our experience when people are sharing experiences that they didn’t have,” Ushkowitz quipped.

Chad Overstreet, aka Sam, referred to The Price of Glee as “bulls**t” and an attempt to “get people to watch something” on the Elvis Duran Show.
“Oh, I think all that’s bulls**t,” he said at the mention of the docuseries. “I think anybody that knows anything about that show and experienced it doesn’t have anything to do with that, from what I know.”
“We’re all really close and, you know, pretty much like family, and nobody knows anything about that,” Overstreet continued.
So, who are the ones providing insider knowledge in The Price of Glee? Discovery tapped the Glee cast’s relatives, friends, and publicists for insight. Fans also hear from former crew members as well as journalists who were on the Glee beat at the time of its airing.
