The world is wishing Prince Harry a very happy pub day. After days of leaks and his explosive media tour, the Duke of Sussex’s hotly anticipated memoir is officially on bookshelves nationwide.
Spare chronicles Harry’s life, both as a former UK resident—during which time he lost his mother and spent time in the army—and as an estranged royal who fell in love with wife Meghan Markle and fleed to the States.
To no surprise, Spare is already climbing the bestseller charts. It’s reached the number spot on Amazon and is expected to stay there for quite some time. According to The New York Times, Random House, the publisher behind Spare, is printing 2.5 million hardcover copies just for North American readers. Book wholesaler Ingram has printed 90,000 copies, which will stay on standby for bookstores that sell out.
Meanwhile, Target and Walmart’s distributor, ReaderLink, has put in an order for around 300,000 copies of Spare. It was also reported that Barnes & Noble requested hundreds of thousands of copies.

The UK’s largest book retailer, Waterstones, is having a very profitable year thanks to Prince Harry. John Cotterill, a nonfiction buyer for the UK bookstore chain, told The Bookseller magazine that Harry’s memoir was “one [of] the biggest pre-order titles of the last decade for Waterstones,” per ABC News.
Spare has only been officially out for a few hours, but fans on social media have been journaling their reactions to Harry’s anecdotes as they’ve been leaked — and they’re hilarious.
