Move over Mariah Carey, there’s a new Christmas queen in town. Nicknamed “Christmas Dolly” by her nieces and nephews, Dolly Parton isn’t waiting until December 1st to decorate her home in tinsel and mistletoe or blast her favorite Christmas tunes. Speaking with TODAY.com, the country music legend revealed that she’s of the belief that the earlier, the better.
“I actually start decorating and playing Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving,” Parton shared of her deck the hall plans. Those of which include setting up a Christmas tree in every room.
While some may be of the mindset that November is a little too early to be blasting “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Last Christmas,” there’s no such thing as a right or wrong time, according to Parton. “I think it’s anytime we feel like it. It makes you feel good and makes you happy!” she explained.

Sometimes, Parton even plays Christmas music outside of the holiday season. “Some of my little nieces and nephews come to visit me and they always think of me as ‘Christmas,’ because I do such a big deal about it. So they often want me to play Christmas music when they’re visiting with me,” she told TODAY.com.
Parton’s Christmas traditions include cookie nights with the family and singing Christmas carols. “My little nieces and nephews love me at Christmas. We have Christmas night and we have cookie night where we make cookies and make the biggest mess in the world! But I just love Christmas songs. I love the Christmas spirit,” she gushed.
Adding, “I could kind of be like a ‘Christmas Dolly’ or a ‘Dolly for Christmas,’ my name just kind of fits in there.”
Parton’s holiday festivities will carry well into the new year. The “9 to 5” singer-songwriter is joining goddaughter Miley Cyrus in Miami for the second annual Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party. The co-hosts will be performing and reminiscing on their favorite 2022 memories as they countdown to 2023. Fans will be able to watch the event on NBC or stream on Peacock.
