Princess Beatrice made a touching last-minute change to her wedding dress for her surprise ceremony.
Princess Beatrice surprised royal fans last week when Buckingham Palace revealed that she had tied the knot at Windsor Castle with fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
Following the intimate nuptials, the Royal Family released a selection of lovely photos from the ceremony, where fans were treated to a glimpse of Princess Beatrice’s gorgeous wedding gown that the princess had borrowed from her grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.
But it turns out that this wasn’t originally what she was supposed to be wearing, as an insider has revealed that the princess’s dress choice was a last minute decision.
A friend of the bride and groom told PEOPLE that Princess Beatrice “made a request” to wear her grandmother the Queen’s beautiful gown, and “that was kindly granted”.
“And it looked amazing,” the friend said, adding, “It was touching for both of them”.
The gown, which was originally designed by Norman Hartnell, is made from delicate taffeta and satin, with organza sleeves and beautiful diamanté details.
It was altered by the Queen’s dressmaker Stewart Parvin and fitted by her longtime dresser Angela Kelly.
‘Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of York and Mr. Mapelli Mozzi have been touched by the warm wishes they have received since their wedding, and are delighted to share two additional photographs of their happy day,’ the Royal Family Instagram account wrote alongside a series of wedding photos that they shared.
